How to Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Have you ever tried to teach a lesson on Martin’s life but couldn't find a great read-aloud with examples? Or better yet an activity to engage all learners? This book and craft project I created is the perfect way to incorporate reading comics skills that all your students can relate to.

Guess what? Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday is a GREAT INTRODUCTION INTO Black History Month! I love introducing my students to Black History Month with the book Martin’s Big Words by author Doreen Rappaport.

This book is a must-read! The book is a perfect resource to implement in your classroom. Martin’s Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s low prep resource has all the reading and writing tools to help you incorporate meaningful lessons. It includes everything YOU need to get up and running which is why created this resource.

As we step into the New Year, it's a great time to strengthen our classroom community, especially after the winter break. One effective way to achieve this is through a thought-provoking writing activity, where students share their aspirations for the year ahead, and the world at large. This exercise can be enriched by discussing the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King and his enduring dream. Utilizing the 'Be The Change' board and activity can foster a sense of unity in the classroom, making the transition back to school smoother and more enjoyable. This approach not only promotes camaraderie but also instills Dr. King's values in our young minds.

If you’d like to try these activities with your students or even your child at home then head to my store. I’ve included A FREE WORD SEARCH which is also included in my TPT store.
