6 Easy Steps to An Organized Classroom

Having an organized classroom makes your day flow more easily. Especially when you’re starting a brand new year! Yes, that means in January! It’s a refresh not only for you but for your students.

Students want to walk into a space that feels fresh, clean and of course organized. So you might be asking how do you do that? Let me tell you…

1. TEACH STUDENTS TO STAY ORGANIZED- that means giving them the responsibility of a class task or job each day so you stay on top of the daily mess.

2. NUMBER AND COLOR CODE EVERYTHING- our eyes are naturally drawn to colorful things so why not color code the items you want to organize? Trust me, you’ll thank me later!

3. ORGANIZE ONE AREA AT A TIME- don’t feel overwhelmed by all the things, take a deep breathe and just jot down the area you want to focus on first and do that!

4. GET CREATIVE WITH STORAGE- there are tons of ways to organize your spaces. My favorite way to organize my teacher closets is by simply using storage containers that are clear from Walmart or Target. Also, use labels to clearly identify what you have!

5. ORGANIZATION ISN’T TAUGHT IN COLLEGE- when you went to college, did you even think about organization? Your instructors left that out so take some time to truly find a system that works for you. Do your research!

6. GIVE AWAY ITEMS YOU DON'T USE- I always remind my teachers to give away items to new teachers who may need the items you no longer want or need. Of course if it’s trash… toss it! We don’t need any hoarders 🙃 in the classroom!

Tell me, what is one thing in your classroom you’ll plan to focus on this month?
