Veterans Day Activities

Veterans Day: The Poppy Lady Activities

It’s November which means that in no time at all we'll be moving full throttle through back-to-back holidays!

I’ve been thinking of ways to implement Veterans Day in my classroom and created this resource to accompany your lesson plans for the picture book The Poppy Lady and hope that you will find value in the following activities for Veterans Day. The Poppy Lady Book Companion.

The book details: when American soldiers entered World War I, Moina Belle Michael, a schoolteacher from Georgia, knew she had to act. Some of the soldiers were her students and friends. Almost single-handedly, Moina worked to establish the red poppy as the symbol to honor and remember soldiers.

-Introduce students to each activity attached to this resource:

KWL Chart, Story Vocab, Character Trait, Story Mapping, Compare and Contrast, Poppy Flower Craft, Favorite Parts of the Story, Writing, Wordsearch, Reading Comprehension, and Book Review.

* Decide NOW not to feel overwhelmed planning for Veterans Day

* Implement the read-aloud book ideas teaching students the importance of Veterans Day

*Prep your VETERANS DAY lesson plans

* This resource is perfect for grades 2nd-5thThe Poppy Lady

* THIS IS A MUST-HAVE RESOURCE for educators and parents!

Even though this season we're entering can get very busy, I hope you find joy and energy within the excitement!

I sure hope you try out these Veterans Day activities I created in your classroom this year! If you don't want to miss out on upcoming classroom ideas, make sure to follow me on Instagram!
